The Best of Vienna photos from Lizelle de Wit

We are very happy to present one of the photographers that is participating in
Lizelle de Wit from South Africa
Biography:
"Born in the spring of 1972, one of four children and the baby of the family, I grew up in the North-Western part of South Africa with two brothers and a sister. Went to school in Brits, and though school life was not that exciting, I really loved the ‘Voortrekkers’, something similar to Scouts. We used to go camping, slept under the stars and did night walks during the full moon having to find treasure by using clues along the route. Needless to say, we often got lost in the process.
I have fond memories of my childhood, with visits to my grandparents’ game farm definitely in the top 10 and I guess this is where my love for nature started. We spent hours riding around on a donkey cart seeing who could spot antelope first, sitting around the campfire or just wandering around in the bushveld. I met my husband Chris while I was in school. We dated for several years and got married in 1992 and two years later our son was born. I worked for eleven years as a personal assistant until my husband took up a position at the United Nations in Vienna in September 2003.
For the past 8 years I have been a homemaker, mother of a teenager, passionate cyclist and hobby photographer.  I love travelling, capturing beautiful images all around me and living in this beautiful city, Vienna.

The Best of Vienna photos from Sheila Mara

We are very happy to present one of the photographers that is participating in
Sheila Mara from Brazil

Biography:
"I was born in Vitoria, Brazil. I went to Architecture University in Rio de Janeiro. I have enjoyed drawing since I was a child. During my teenage years, I already knew that I wanted to become an architect and in 1993, I graduated in architecture and urbanism from the university Gama-Filho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During my studies, I had the honour to start an apprenticeship in which I drew projects from the extraordinary architect Oscar Niemeyer. This rich and unique experience has polished me into becoming even more perfectionist.

I went back to Vitória, my hometown, and started to work for a publicity agency. I got deeply involved with graphic design during that time. It became one of my biggest passions, which fulfils an immense part of my life. It is my job and it is my pleasure!

My début into the world of artistic expositions happened in 1997, in the also debuting “1 st Digital Exposition” in Vitória, Brazil. Since then, I have been most honoured to participate in 16 different expositions in Brazil and 2 in Vienna, Austria, where I have been living since 2006. Here I felt deeply in love with the art of photography. I prefer to define it as a hobby which has shown me a new way of seeing and interpreting the world.

It is crystal clear to me today, that I have always had some sort of connection to art and its different ways of expression. I simply adore getting to know new people and their cultural differences, as well as travelling to new places."

the Best of Vienna photo exhibition and competition for the calendar 2012-2013:
Laura Gaetano from Rome, Italy

Biography:
"I was born in Rome and arrived to Austria when I was thirteen, after living in France for eight years. Some of my favourite things about Vienna are the relaxed environment, the architecture, and the parks. Having grown up in a village and coming from a capital city bigger than Austria's, I was always torn between the quiet, traditional routine and the fast-paced, stressful urban life; in Vienna, I have found a little bit of both things, which come together harmoniously.

I started developing an interest in photography when I was little, mostly to document our many family road trips abroad; with my first Analog SLR (a second-hand one from my mom) I practiced on friends from summer school and on my surroundings, later taking it on trips to Argentina and Norway, shootings from glaciers and corn fields, on horseback and on trains. I've experimented in different fields, lately especially with two extremes, namely food styling and live photography: a “lifeless” studio shot versus an action frozen in time, a moment caught on film. The very versatile and yet challenging nature of photography is what attracts me about it most; when I work in that medium, I follow my own set of rules (with a head-over-heels love for everything that happens before the shutter is pressed, almost exclusively working on manual settings with no editing of the pictures)."

The Best of Vienna photos from Anna Gredinger

We are very happy to present one of the photographers that is participating in
the Best of Vienna photo exhibition and competition for the calendar 2012-2013:
Anna Gredinger from St. Petersburg, Russia

“When a person looks at my photographs, I want him/her to start thinking.
That’s the thing I’m trying to reach.”
Anna Gredinger

Anna Gredinger, originally from St Petersburg, Russia, was first introduced to photography by her father, a keen amateur photographer. But her creative credentials run deeper still. While one of her grandfathers was a renowned icon painter, the other was a professional photographer with his own photo studio in Saint-Petersburg.
Today, Anna thinks of her photography as a ‘professional hobby’ – “something I do when I need to refocus or relax,” she explains. While still in Russia, she studied her craft at the Saint- Petersburg school of photography, gaining a degree in studio photography. Now, she is working towards a degree in Professional Photography through the New York Institute of Photography.

Since moving to Vienna four years ago, Anna has taken part in two exhibitions: one that helped raise money for children with physical disabilities and another at the Bulgarian Embassy when she showed off some of her portraiture work. She has also received an honourable mention in the International Photography Awards: a global competition that is billed as one of the most ambitious and comprehensive in the photography world today.
